Git on iOS
. Permalink. Tags: ios, ish, git.It’s usefull to be able to write a quick note and push it to a git repo from an iPhone. There are git apps, of course, but none I found
- doesn’t have In App Purchases
- and/or doesn’t collect personal data.
Then I came across this forum post on the Obsidian forum [Mobile] Sync with git on iOS for free using iSH. iSH and git? That’s it.
First of all, thanks to @tbodt for building and maintaining iSH.
The steps:
- Install iSH.
- Install git and openssh inside iSH
git add git && git add openssh
cd ~ && mkdir git
mount -t ios . git
cd git && rm -rf .git
- Create ssh keys:
ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -C "your_email@example.com"
and add it to my account. - Clone the git repo
- start editing with
vi
It’s a bit more work than installing an app, but also a lot more fun and rewarding.
